Ghaziabad has 23 Ayurveda clinics and 17 homeopathy centres in the district wherein 50 doctors are appointed. Since June last year, following a government order, they had been performing Covid duty under the district magistrate’s supervision. Besides, they had also distributed thousands of packets of Centre-approved medicines to boost immunity.
A letter issued by additional chief secretary Prashant Trivedi to the director of Ayush department stated that the number of people infected with Covid-19 in UP has now decreased and hence there is no need for Ayush physicians on Covid-19 duty. Officials said that about 25 doctors are still on Covid duty. After getting instructions from the government, the regional Ayurveda and Unani officer Dr Ashok Rana wrote to the district magistrate and chief medical officer demanding that doctors be relieved.
